Who can apply

The licence holder must be the landowner or occupier.

You can apply on behalf of the licence holder with their permission.

Before you start

This application form has several parts. You do not have to complete it in one go. You can save your progress and go back to it later if you need to.

You will need to provide:

  • evidence of training
  • peat depth survey data (if applying for a non-peatland purpose)
  • the areas you wish to burn
  • supporting documents (for research and wildfire purposes)

Further information and supporting document templates are available in our licence guidance.

The Wildlife Management and Muirburn (Scotland) Act 2024 defines peatland as land with peat layers over 40cm.

You must confirm that you will have regard to the Muirburn Code.
